The conflicts between the West (all that is good and right) vs. the radical Middle East is bad enough. However, there is another conflict that really boils my blood, and unfortunately, that conflict is taking place on our own soil. I'm talking about the conflict between the Republicans and the Democrats. The conflict showcases the Liberal majority Congress vs. the White House, and my friends, I sincerely think that if Congress gets its way, disaster will result in the coming years.
Congress wants our troops home now. They know they can't have it that way, so they pass these 100 day deadlines demanding progress by such-and-such dates, or else they are going to begin phasing of our troops.
Now allow me to ask you something. How exactly does one determine progress? While one side argues progress over here, the other side is pinpointing problems over there. Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman was on yesterday's Sean Hannity radio show. Lieberman paraphrased what President Eisenhower once said. You can not put a time limit on a war. The only way a war ends is if you have completed your mission, or you are absolutely certain that you the mission can not be completed. Lieberman spoke that while things appear to be bad in Iraq, we are not at either point yet. I agree with that assessment.
Why is it that Democrats fail to realize how much of a threat Iran and the terrorists really are? Why is it that they don't realize that surrendering Iraq not only reveals we are unable to fight physically, but it also demonstrates our lack of will to fight. As soon as that happens, the terrorists win.
I don't know about you, but I really want to beat the bad guys. I do not want to take any risks of allowing them to strengthen, to gain access to weapons of mass destruction, and carryout their ultimate mission which is death to America. Whether or not America has been the aggressors or not is irrelevant. There is a bounty on our great country and sooner or later, if the chance is there, the bad guys are going to do whatever it takes to take America out. The states have never been higher. And how a good amount of our population fails to comprehend that really scares the hell out of me. I'm not sure if I am more afraid of the enemy or the lack of comprehension that is present on our own soil.

All I want is for the punishment to fit the crime
Growing up in the Mokena and Frankfort area for several years, I still like to keep tabs on the area by reading one of their local papers. As I was reading through one of the paper's police blotter last week, I found the name of a friend of mine back from junior high. This individual was arrested for driving under the influence, eluding a police officer, having a suspended license and no insurance. Now this individual was someone who has been associated with trouble since I knew him. I didn't realize it then, but I came to realize it as I got to know him. So it didn't really surprise me when I found his name in the blotter just last week.
Whether it's a friend of mine, former friend, or a complete stranger, my feelings are that the law must serve justice to any and all persons. This individual who I was friends with in junior high really dug himself a hole. Unfortunately for him, knowing this person, it probably wasn't his first DUI. And it probably won't be his last.
All my life, I have witnessed too many people I know get off way too easy for any crime or misbehavior that they conducted. Everyone claims that Lincoln-Way High School is a very strict school district. It is. I'm not denying that. The school district is, not necessarily each individual teacher or staff who works there.
Growing up in Richton Park, I grew up with a kid who loved to cause trouble. He started his fair share of fights with me, and others. No matter what he did though, he never got in too much trouble. He always got off easy. He threw a rock at me and hit me in the head during recess back in third grade. My head hurt like hell that day and I brought it to the attention of my teacher. She did absolutely nothing. Shame on me for not bringing it to someone higher in authority. It wasn't until after I moved away from Richton Park, when that kid finally got what was coming to him. He brought a particular weapon to school. He only wanted to show it off, was his story. A kid told on him, and the principal allegedly was going to suspend him for ten days. TEN DAYS? The superintendent stepped in and expelled the F'er! Now that's what I'm talking about! I'm talking about having the punishment fit the crime!
My point in all of this? My point is that I want Anthony Abbate to never see the light of day ever again. Abbate, of course, is the lowlife piece of scum Chicago police officer who was off duty, and proceeded to beat up a female bartender last month. The misdemeanor charge was dropped against him yesterday, but this lowly hick still faces felony charges later in April. I am paying extra close attention to this story, because I really want to see this guy pay. I want the law to make an example out of this scumbag. If beating up a female bartender wasn't bad enough, his fellow police buddies may have attempted to cover it up and beyond!
I sincerely hope the prosecution investigates every nook-and-cranny and expose the corruption that surely is taking place inside Abbate's police department. Furthermore, I hope Abbate is made an example out of. I want him to pay dearly so bad, that he may never see the light of day again. If Abbate somehow spends less than a year in prison, I will be sickened. But it wouldn't surprise me.
All I'm asking for is that the punishment fits the crime... for once. Am I really asking for too much?

First blog entry
Every other blog I have ever attempted has failed, due to excessive laziness. I won't guarantee that the same won't happen here. However, because I pay more attention to the things that are happening in the world today, I am hopeful that I will be more motivated to share my ideas, opinions and reflections that may come to me. We'll see what happens and take it one entry at a time.
Stay tuned.
